Internship Details

Pastoral Intern

We are seeking a pastoral intern to assist in the ministries of the church. The plan is to give the intern exposure to many areas in the church to better understand the role of Pastor/Head of Staff or Associate Pastor in a small but growing congregation in Southern California. We are in a very diverse community (80 percent Asian/Vietnamese, 18 percent Hispanic, and 2 percent White/Other). The challenge has been how to change to meet the needs of this multi-ethnic area.

The intern will be given opportunities to teach, preach, lead others, and plan activities under the supervision and guidance of the Pastor/Head of Staff and session.

Mentoring Church Context

What is the mission/vision of the church? How can an intern help the congregation to achieve these?
At Lighthouse we are God's Family shining Christ's light into our community by trusting God, sharing the Gospel, and building relationships in love and unity.

We are a church by God's grace that values:
Loving God and loving others
Focusing on God's word
Depending on His Spirit through prayer
Providing a place to belong
What is the make-up of the church and the surrounding community?
We are in a multi-ethnic community. Our church tries to reach all of the people in our community. Lighthouse has services each week in English and Spanish. We partner with a charter school which uses our property during the week. We also are partnering with Agape Church to reach the Vietnamese in our community.
What are your top 2 strengths and growth areas as a church?
Musical worship is one of our strengths. We have a great worship leader and band. We also have a choir and bell choir. Our music style for the English service is predominantly contemporary. Our Spanish service leans more traditional.

Our church is very loving and people feel a part of the family when they are here.

One of the biggest areas we where we would like to see growth is with Lighthouse Kids and Youth.
